The Bank sent it’s tape via mail (DHL) and the tape never made it. So it was considered as lost.
I think it is interesting that some reports (the local newspaper – grand rapids press). Said that the tape was Encrypted. Other reports say the tape was not encrypted. I don’t know about the rest of you. But they should be encrypting the backup tapes. But in all reality, it is expensive to encrypt and takes the backups longer to run. So my guess is that they did not.
