Sweet Screen Saver

I have had a type of fondness for screen savers.  I have wrote a few (checkout out the link on the right), so when I saw the screen saver that Adrian Crenshaw wrote(http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=security/packetfountain) I had to give it a try.  He has put the source out there and I plan on attempting to build on his idea.   I love to see ideas …

Remote Desktop Tricks (Terminal Service Client)

I am often asked about how to remote control or use a remote windows server.  Most people know how to use Remote Desktop to connect but do not know all the features available.  The most common question I get is how to transfer files.  Built into The Remote desktop client is the ability to map your local drives to that server.  …

I.E. 7.0

I have been using the beta I.E. 7.0 for about two weeks now.  It is interesting to see how this version of the browser works.  Microsoft has done their homework in this upgrade.   The major changes that I like are: Tabs, settings, and Favorite groups.  There are a lot more items that are nice, but those seem to be the major ones.   A …

C# vs VB.net

Now I am really starting to think that Microsoft is pushing VB.net over C#. Here is a link to a C# converter to change code in C# over to VB.net. Why would you do this? I am not sure. But, in addition to the MY.OBJECT feature only in VB.net and now a C# to VB.net converter, I am starting to feel …

Visual Studio 2005 – c# My.object

I have been working with VS 2005 a bit. One of the things I keep hearing people talk about, mainly a friend of mine who is using VB.NET 2005, is the “MY.OBJECT“. He was telling me how easy it is to grab a file and to check if the application can touch the network. So I figured I would give this …

Share Point Alternative

I have had a few people ask me questions on some open-source or alternative portal sites to sharepoint. I have seen a few linux based systems that perform similar tasks to sharepoint but nothing that was on the windows side. Until recently, I ran across (http://www.alfresco.org/) Alfresco is a great project that allows for a good alternative. I was able to …

CD / DVD Media Life Span

I just read this interesting article about the life span of CD media. (http://msn.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,124312,00.asp?GT1=7645) They are determining that the life of a burned CD is not that long, and that you should either reburn the media every few years or use Tape. Over the course of the last few years, I have gone away from tape. This is due to Tape …
